With No Surroundings There Can Be No Path

With No Surroundings There Can Be No Path (2014)
solo double bass, field recordings, and sine tones
commissioned by Nat Evans
Duration: 10 minutes

This piece was made as part of Nat Evans’s months long mobile residency and composer-collaborations titled “The Tortoise and His Raincoat: Music for a Very Long Walk.” The first part of the project consisted of Nat walking the entire Pacific Crest Trail and making field recordings along the way. While heading North, he sent eight composers living along the trail from San Diego to Seattle recordings made close to their homes. The composers used these recordings to make short works posted online during Nat’s walk.
