In 2015 I’m releasing (via bandcamp) a little experiment/idea/test track on the 15th of each month. That means the first track was posted today!

I’ve been working on a large piece using a Moog synth, processing it with the computer in both SuperCollider and Pro Tools. For this track I took a short synth sample I recorded and experimented with some different kinds of processing (time stretching, filtering, reverb, etc) using Pro Tools. Some of the ideas might make it into the large work, it’s unclear. I guess that’s why it’s an experiment.

New Site

Welcome! Here it is! 2015 brings a new look (with colors!) and some more photos as well as my inevitable giving-in to a content management system which will organize and display everything much more easily for me.

A couple upcoming concerts

I have a couple of exciting upcoming concerts. First are two performances with a brand new conductorless chamber orchestra, Kaleidoscope. We’re playing Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony in Pasadena and Santa Monica on November 21st and 23rd.

Second, I’ll be playing on the series Tuesdays @ Monk Space on December 9th. The concert features the Lyris Quartet, Gnarwhallaby, Sara Andon, Elissa Johnston, and me performing works by Marina Khorkova, Helmut Lachenmann, and Carola Bauckholt. Andon and I will perform Khorkova’s a_priori.

With No Surroundings There Can Be No Path

Here’s a recording of my hot-off-the-press piece, With No Surroundings There Can Be No Path, which is part of Nat Evans’s months-long project The Tortoise and His Raincoat: Music for a Very Long Walk. It uses field recordings Nat made along part of his journey on the Pacific Crest Trail, roughly passing where I grew up to where I live now.
